In April 2007, Slave Descendants Freedom Society, Inc. will kickoff a national educational seminar campaign called "Family Restoration Roundtable." The seminars are scheduled to be held across the U.S. in 50 cities between spring 2007 and winter2008. The goal of the seminars is to provide individuals information on a new strategic approach to resolving violence and crime in our communities, particularly the African American communities. The approach will show people how genealogy and histgory can be used as a tool to restore and reconnect African American families that have been separated because of the negative affects that the transatlantic slave trade has left on our communities.
The seminars will also highlight the following:
|
|
- Travel opportunities to The Gambia, West Africa, ancestral home of the famed author and genealogist Alex Haley, created of the award-winning movie "ROOTS" and his ancestor, Kunta Kinte. Situated on the Atlantic Ocean in an exotic and tropical setting, The Gambia is increasingly developing more vacation and tourism opportunities for travelers of all cultural backgrounds.
- Emerging business opportunities for African American business owners.
- Cultural and business exchange trip to Gambia in June 2008. The event will be called "Restoration Conference" and will also be the unveiling of a one-of-a-kind genealogy, business and cultural exchange facility called The Restoration Center, to be built in The Gambia.
